Does this work? A big gamble from Ross. But you have to erase the original from your mind and treat this like it’s the first time you have heard it, then it works. It works big time.

Ross has taken arguably The White Stripes biggest hit and best known song, a song known for it’s drive and urgency, and he has turned it into a slow blues. What? You say. Well I did say you had to forget you ever heard the song, because this is so different.

This is electric Harding and he drips small licks all over the song, tempting and enticing from the start, whilst his baritone blues voice belts out the pain from within. You don’t hear the original riff until about a third of the way in, and then it goes.

The drums, mainly kick and snare with a great kick tone, hold the song to the floor with the bass playing very economic but effective notes.  The song rises and falls, rises and falls, bursts into a pained solo and then falls and falls, leaving you wanting more.

And if you want more he is about to start a UK tour, I’m going to catch him in Manchester, I can’t wait, I’ve looked forward to this for a long time, and indeed a seven nation army couldn’t hold me back.  ****
