UMC [Release date 04.12.15]
Hot on the heels of the latest ‘Greatest hits’ package are these three repackaged and expanded Quo classics. The three albums have been lovingly enhanced with new packaging, rare pictures and an introduction to each written by rock journalist Dave Ling.
Hello! was first released back in 1973 and spawned many classics which are still constants in the band’s live set today including ‘Caroline’ and ‘Roll Over Lay Down’. With this package you get the original album along with a second disc which contains no less than 4 alternative versions of ‘Caroline’ along with a live version of ‘Don’t Waste My Time’ recorded at the Reading Festival in 1973. ****
Next up is the Quo album from 1974, again another disc brimming with SQ classics including ‘Backwater’ and ‘Break The Rules’. The Frantic Four were really hitting their stride at this point and the Quo album rocks from start to finish. Again there is a second disc included which is probably the most interesting extra as it contains a live show recorded back in the day at L’Olympia in Paris. The eleven track live set is an excellent listen with the band in fine form, a must have for any Quo collector. ****
Lastly we have Rockin’ All Over The World which was originally released back in 1977 and gave the band their signature song which still has grown men reaching for their air guitars whenever it is played. Essentially you get two versions of the album with this package, the original release and a remixed version which was handled by John Eden who was the man that engineered the album in the first place. There are also 4 previously unreleased demo versions of songs from the album including ‘Dirty Water’ and ‘Hold You Back’ ****
You may already have these albums in your collection but there is enough in the second discs to merit further investigation, especially the Paris live set which for any Quo completist is a must have. It makes you wonder what else Rossi and Parfitt have stashed in the archive?
