Eagle Records [Release date 16.06.17]
Eagle Records are releasing several live CD’s from The Rolling Stones, each following their successful release on DVD. Each is taken from a different point in the band’s history and finds them at a high point in their career every time.
From 1972 we have Ladies And Gentlemen, filmed in Texas and featuring the guitar pairing of Mick Taylor and Keith Richards, this could be described as the band’s ultimate live line-up. The fifteen song set list includes a handful of classic Stones tracks from the band’s recent “Exile on Main Street”, “Sticky Fingers” and “Let It Bleed” albums, with tracks such as “Bitch”, “Brown Sugar”, “Gimme Shelter”, “Tumbling Dice” and “Happy” sitting comfortably amongst older favourites like “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and “Street Fighting Man”.
Then we come to Some Girls: Live in Texas’78, again filmed in Texas (obviously) but this time on a bigger scale and featuring Ronnie Wood in the place of Mick Taylor. The set list here is a more balanced affair with a collection of seventeen tracks from throughout the band’s career of 16 years at that point. Mixing the likes of newer tracks “Miss You”, “Shattered” and “When The Whip Comes Down” with the more established “Love in Vain”, “All Down The Line” and “Star Star”, this concert shows the band shifting into the large touring machine that we know today.
Finally we have Checkerboard Lounge: Live in Chicago 1981. Here we find band members Ronnie Wood, Keith Richards, Mick Jagger and piano player Ian Stewart performing alongside the legendary Muddy Waters at Buddy Guy’s blues club in Chicago. Together they play seven classic tracks including “Mannish Boy”, “Hoochie Coochie Man”, “Baby Please Don’t Go” and Got My Mojo Workin’”. This gig will surely go down in the history of blues music as one of the very best.
If you love The Rolling Stones and need more than the DVD’s you already have then you will enjoy these new CD’s. ****
