Album review: TRICK OR TREAT – Creepy Symphonies

TRICK OR TREAT – Creepy Symphonies

Scarlet Records [Release date 01.04.22]

‘Creepy Symphonies’ is the seventh studio album from Trick Or Treat, who always entertain with their music. Like Freedom Call, Trick Or Treat like to think of their music as happy metal. Vocalist Alle Conti even found time to design the band’s new logo, as well as fronting Twilight Force.

After a suitably bombastic intro piece ‘Trick Or Treat’, the band are off on a Helloween/Gamma Ray approved power metal romp on ‘Creepy Symphonies’. ‘Have A Nice Judgement Day’, which despite its gloomy subject matter, is real melodic metal treat. With a hook bigger than a whaling ship this song is sure to become a live favourite.

‘Crazy’ is like the early Gamma Ray songs – short, with a frantic pace and a memorable chorus. Loving the guitar intro on ‘Queen Of Likes’, and midway through the song ups the metal ante. ‘April’ has a decent sing-a-long chorus, one of their happy metal tunes!

How can you not love a band that end their album with an eleven minute epic entitled ‘The Power Of Grayskull’? Yes indeed folks, it features He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Subject matter heaven for a power metal band! The pomp keys intro sets the scene nicely, before the band gallop off into power metal land, complete with soaring vocals, choral backing vocals and guitar solos aplenty.

Quite possibly Trick Or Treat’s finest album to date. Here’s hoping they get that extra bit of luck and become much more widely known in power & melodic metal circles. ****
