Jar Records 2012
Hailing from Hartlepool, The Jar Family is an 8- piece band featuring ex-Squeeze bass player Keith Wilkinson. Debut album “The Jar Family Album” has a feeling of Americana with a Scouse accent and the album touches on several styles from the rootsy “In For A Penny”, the soft country leanings of “Broken Minded” to the rockier indie feel of “Getting Better”- all blending nicely so there is no feeling of disjointedness.
There is also a light reggae feel courtesy of “Love Can Shine”, the band’s earlier single “Poolie Strut” has an air of Arctic Monkeys and “Cinderella” has some Dylan style energy to it. But it is the gentle acoustic country of “Pretty Faced Lady”, the slow Hammond B3 aided acoustic “Skipping Beats” and the bluesier “Debt” that give the album that feeling of depth to it.
The band wrote the material for “The Jar Family Album”, along with enough for a further 2 albums, over an 8 month period- not a feat that can be performed by too many up and coming bands these days.
