Eagle Vision 2012
Kasabian seem to be always winning either a “Best British Band” or “Best Live Band” award- and it’s not hard to see why. Having released 4 albums, this DVD was filmed at London’s O2 Arena in December of last year, whilst the band toured in support of the latest “Velociraptor!”.
I have always thought of the band as the middle ground between Oasis and U2, but having delved a bit further I would say that a good blend of The Stone Roses, Primal Scream and Oasis is probably nearer the mark. The bands brand of modern electronic rock is accompanied by some rather impressive lighting and visual displays and at times has the feel of a larger festival stage.
With massive sounding songs like “I.D”, “Shoot The Runner”, “Clubfoot” and “Fire” sitting along the likes of lighters out track “La Fee Verte” or slower “Goodbye Kiss”, the band mix newer album tracks with more established material such as “Where Did The Love Go”, “Empire” and “L.S.F”- the latter complete with string section. Title track of latest album, “Velociraptor!”, is catchy like the Kaiser Chiefs but with more swagger and polish, whilst “Fast Fuse” segues into “Misirlou” (think Pulp Fiction) and ends up as an impromptu “Jingle Bells”- well it was the 15th December after all!!
The DVD bonus feature is documentary “I Hear Voices” which was shot on the tour. The DVD itself will come in several editions, standard DVD and BluRay and then a special edition of both complete with additional CD of the shows highlights.
Kasabian are a band that are clearly going to be selling out arenas for years to come and “Live! Live at The O2” is a great statement to the job they have done so far.
