Quick Plays – FATES UPON US, THE TUESDAY CLUB, BLAKCAN

FATES UPON US – Fates Upon Us

S-a-N PR ( Release date – 22nd Oct 2012 )

Fates Upon Us are a bunch of young upstarts from Sheffield that make a hell of a racket. This is their debut EP and it is a bit of a metalcore by numbers affair. The six tracks on offer are decent enough although there is nothing new here, the guys though put their heart and soul into the performance. Looking at the cover picture of the band I reckon I have t-shirts older than these guys, so to produce as reasonable an EP as this at first go shows some talent. If they can keep things together and develop a more individual sound then they may be an interesting prospect.

THE TUESDAY CLUB – Dolly Dynamite

Perfect Pop Records ( Release Date – 17th Sept 2012)

The Tuesday Club look like an intriguing unit, an 8 piece that describe themselves as a mix between The Rocky Horror Show, Carry On Screaming, a BBC period drama and Dad’s Army ! They missed the B52’S off the list though which is a glaring omission as they were the first thing that sprung to my mind on first listen. This three track single is a bit hit and miss, the lead track ‘Dolly Dynamite’ is quirky pop and not too bad. Next up is ‘Money Means Nothing’ which only kicks in after three quarters of the track are gone and last track’ They May Look Cute, But These Dogs Bite’ is a duffer from the off.

They may be quirky and the stage show sounds interesting, but I think they use the visuals to disguise the lack of musical content.

BLAKCAN – Dark Daze

Big Industry Records (Release Date – 24th Sept 2012)

Dark electronic indie pop from the Black Country.  Think The Pet Shop Boys, but caught in the rain , in Slough, and you are getting close. It’s downbeat 90’s electronica which is a bit mediocre but a reasonable track. It’s hard to judge a band on one track, but I won’t be rushing to seek out any others.
