ASHENTIDE, ALL SHE WROTE, CIRCLE OF REASON

ASHENTIDE – Ashentide EP

Self Release ( Release Date – Out Now)

Ashentide are a symphonic metal band from Los Angeles who have been kicking about for 4 years now. Fronted by Lenore Young, the band are obviously heavily influenced by Nightwish and Within Temptation. Musically they are more than a match for both over the 3 tracks on offer with some great playing throughout. Where they fail though is in the vocal department as Lenore just doesn’t have the power in her vocal delivery to carry it off which is a shame as apart from that the EP is worth a spin.

This should score higher, but the finished article just doesn’t hit the spot.

ALL SHE WROTE – Weathered

Self Release (Release Date – 26th Nov 2012)

This is the debut single from nu-metal upstarts All She Wrote and it’s a decent effort. There is just the one track featured here and to be honest it isn’t breaking any new ground, but the band show a bit of potential. If I had to pick fault I would say that Connor on vocals needs to up his game a bit, apart from that not too shabby guys.

CIRCLE OF REASON – A Favour For A Stranger

Self Release (Release Date – 3rd Dec 2012)

Oh for a decent vocalist ! Circle Of Reason are yet another band that provide the goods musically then it all falls apart when the vocal kicks in, or doesn’t in this case. Mastering in Smashing Pumpkins alt-rock territory, the band play well with some clever guitar work and writing, but the lack lustre, flat vocals drag things down. Best song on the EP is the last, ‘Sea Of Voices’, where Simon the vocalist does try to inject a bit of life into the proceedings, not enough though to redeem things.

My advice would be for Simon to stick to guitar and for the band to find a better frontman, but what do I know ?
