MOS GENERATOR – Nomads

Ripple Music (Release Date – 23rd Oct 2012)

All the way from Port Orchard, Washington, Mos Generator have been delivering top class, doom laden stoner rock to the masses for the past 11 years. The guys released 4 albums between 2002 and 2007 but went into hiatus shortly after to sort out their lives and recharge their batteries.

The band regrouped in 2011 and ’Nomads’ is the first release from the newly revitalised trio. The opening track on the album ‘Cosmic Ark’ kicks things off nicely with an early Sabbath like groove complete with a monster bassline. This sets the tone nicely for what follows as over the nine tracks the quality continues throughout. ‘Lonely One Kenobi’ is up next which again contains a super heavy riff that ticks all the stoner rock boxes.

This isn’t an album though to stick on at a party or for a bit of background music, it is a dark, deep and brooding slab of rock which demands your attention, pop-punk it most definitely ain’t ! The grooves the guys create however contain plenty of melody as ably demonstrated on ‘Step Up’ and the title track ‘Nomads’.

This is a strong comeback album that should cement the band’s place in the stoner rock community and beyond. Well worth a listen.
