Orden Ogan return with their oft delayed new album ‘To The End’ – it was down for a February release, then April and now finally its here in October! I came into this band via their last album, the excellent ‘Easton Hope’. This new album is a lot less symphonic than that album and has a more instant power metal vibe. Take the romping metal ‘The Things We Believe In’, a song Freedom Call would be proud to call their own and the lead single of the album. ‘Land Of The Dead’ is a no holds power metal romp, lots of double bass drums and crashing riffs plus the obligatory choral vocals. ‘Till The Stars Cry Out’ is a highlight for me, lots going on in this one from the vocal arrangement through to the guitar solos and keyboard fills.
‘The Ice Kings’ (there is a theme of ice and extremes running through the album) sees the band show off their vocal harmonies aided by nifty guitar playing. Then there is ‘Take This Light’, a gentle piano intro before the vocals kick in, adding and building to a massed choral finale, before a piano fad out, stunning listening.
They have returned and it has been worth the wait. As mentioned earlier more instant, less symphonic than ‘Easton Hope’ but still a damn fine album. Do yourself a favour and check this band out as they are a real gem in the current power/symphonic metal scene.
