Single reviews: THE TRADE, ORDINARYSON, VALENTIINE

Valentiine – Love Like

Valentiine – Vanessa (guitars / vocals), Erica (bass/vocals) and Shelly (drums/vocals) are a 3-piece all girl garage rock outfit from Melbourne, Australia.

Their debut UK single – Love Like- is reminiscent of the Shirley Manson / Garbage sound of the 1990’s – a dark moody groove, blistered overdosed vocals and a heavily laden hook.

Intentionally, or otherwise, the production is particularly lo-fi.  Some will see that as attitude and realism, others will view it as inexcusable in this day and age.  But I suspect the angst ridden teens Valentiine are aiming for simply won’t give a —-. ***

THE TRADE – Fight Club
CDS released March 18th 2013 www.the-trade.co.uk

A new single from this Dundee based band, although the album this is released off came out back in 2011. They have toured with some name artists including the Buzzcocks, the Undertones and a sold out gig in their native Dundee. This song is not too bad, standard guitar led rock number but nothing to make you sit up and take note, then have you wanting to track down their album.

ORDINARYSON – Sorted Out
CDS www.ordinaryson.co.uk

Founded around Ian S Thompson, the band has been around for some time and this current line-up has been around since 2007. A gentle little number, allowing Ian Thompson’s vocal to take the limelight and rightly so. Tried to think of a comparison but couldn’t really. It does leave the listener though wanting to hear more.
