ELECTRO-NOMICON – Unleashing The Shadows

No Remorse Records (Release date – out now)

To many lovers of rock the passing of the great Ronnie James Dio was a sad day. The man had a unique power, strength and depth to his voice and he left a huge hole in the rock scene with no obvious successor waiting in the wings. Enter one Diego Valdez, frontman of Electro-Nomicon, who is the closest you can get to RJD without digging out your well worn copy of ‘Holy Diver’

The three piece have joined together from the US and Argentina to come up with an album with classic rock at its heart . Think classic Dio and Rainbow but with a modern twist and you are in the right area. This is the band’s debut album and it oozes maturity and class from the start.

Opening track, ‘The Art Of Destruction’, sets the bar high with a classic rock masterclass. The Dio comparisons are inescapable, but if you are going to sound like someone you may as well go for the best. Of all the ten tracks on offer the only one that falls short is the instrumental ‘Dark Flight’ which is a vehicle to showcase the guitar work of Juan Jose Fornes. Although he plays well the song really doesn’t go anywhere and comes across as a filler track.

This is a good album and if you were a Dio Disciple then you need to hear this disc just for those vocals, it will send a shiver down your spine. The guys though have enough talent on show to win you over and prove that Electro-Nomicon are a great band in their own right.
