Linda & The Punch are built around 21 year old vocalist Linda and what gives her a headstart on many rivals is that famed producer/musician Michael Voss (Silver/Michael Schenker) is involved. Voss also lends a hand with songwriting as does Tommy Denander and former Scorpions drummer Herman Rarebell.
The music is aimed at a younger audience than your normal Escape Music as this is pop rock as peddled by the likes of Avril Lavinge and Pink, so in fairness I am not sure this may reach the majority of the target audience.
There are some great songs on here from opener ‘What A Shame’, a real pop rock gem and the Voss-penned ‘Looking Out For Number One’, a song that takes the tempo down a little.
There is an ill advised cover of the Patti Smith classic ‘Because The Night’, as the big guitar riffs just about pass muster but the strange electronic effects ruin it. That aside the album is very enjoyable, helped by strong tunes and Linda herself who has a real ‘take notice of me’ voice. Good start and hopefully by the next album she will start to add more of her own musical ideas. ***1/2
