Album review: KODIAK JACK – Alhambra

Kodiak Jack - Alhambra

Self Release  [Release date - Out Now]

Kodiak Jack hail from Portsmouth and formed in 2009. This is their second album and it is produced by Brian Wheat from Tesla. Kodiak Jack opened for Tesla on their recent UK show in London. Three of the tracks, ’Wasted Youth’, ‘Crossfire’ and ‘Waves’, are reworkings from the previous album ‘Your Death: My Glory’.

The album starts loud, fast and rocking and continues much the same throughout. At times the vocals, Bryn Roberts, sound a trifle forced but in the main he has a powerful, tuneful voice. The music comes fast and heavy with great guitar work by Jeff Arnold and Jon Karp. Plenty of bass, Kev Farren and Keiren Bellinger on drums keeping everything going at a cracking pace.

The pace slows a bit for track nine, ‘Live To Fight’, a sad little number with acoustic guitar leading into a louder ending with an electric guitar solo, one of the album highlights.

This album is a bit of a grower, by the third listen I was really quite enjoying it.  ****
