EP review: BEGGARZ FIXX – Rouse The Rabble

BEGGARZ FIXX – Rouse The Rabble

Self Release  [Release date –08.09.14]

Hmm, not too sure where to go with this EP. On the one hand the music is good, although nothing to write home about, think any second rate LA band from the late 80’s hair metal brigade and you get the picture, entertaining but nothing new. On the other hand, vocals are an issue as both lead and backing vocals just aren’t that good on the whole.

The album starts with ‘…And The Devil Knows You’ which has a spoken vocal over musical backing with the final riff leading into track 2, ‘Outta Control’. This track starts well enough but once the vocals come in it goes downhill rapidly. It sounds as though frontman Chazza B Bennett is trying just a little too hard and he ends up screeching and unintelligible on the higher parts.

On the last track on the EP, ‘Walking’,  things start off slowly and Bennett shows that he can indeed sing and that he has a decent voice, however the rest of the tracks are marred by the ‘screech’.

As I said at the start the music is decent but nothing new and there are other bands doing the same thing, only better, up and down the country. Not an essential listen I’m afraid.  **1/2
