Album review: EDEN’S CURSE – Live With The Curse

EDEN’S CURSE – Live With The Curse

AFM Records [Release date 13.03.15]

“Live With The Curse” was recorded live in what can probably be classed as Eden’s Curse’s hometown of Glasgow back in late November 2014 in support of their rather excellent “Symphony Of Sin” album.

This is a proper live album…excellent artwork (with an Egyptian “Eve” as it’s vocal point), running time of over 90 minutes (the full set and not some edited version) and a band that seem to be thoroughly enjoying the occasion.

On an individual album basis most songs are selected from the aforementioned “Symphony Of Sin” release but the earlier releases “Trinity”, “Second Coming” and debut “Eden’s Curse” are certainly not forgotten about…10 of the 18 songs on offer are from the pre-Nikola Mijic vocal era.

The performances of the band cannot be faulted from the majestic vocals of Nikola Mijic (this guy is a real find), Thorsten Koehne’s faultless fretwork, Steve Williams’s keyboards and the rhythm section that is main-man Paul Logue on bass and newcomer, and fellow Scot, John Clelland on drums.

This is how a good live album should sound…good instrument clarity, clear powerful vocals and a crowd that is enjoying itself…and most importantly it makes you feel like you were there that cold November night in Glasgow…

Not usually impressed by live albums as these days “big” bands keeps releasing them as stop-gaps between studio albums to put a few more coins in the coffers…but this is Eden’s Curse’s first live album and it is an enjoyable one that you will listen to again and again.  ****
