EP Review: RED SPEKTOR – Red Spektor
Self release (Release date 18.05.15)
Red Spektor are a trio from Stoke on Trent who formed in 2012. Red Spektor is a self titled EP with five excellent tracks, if you like psychedelia, which I do.
Red Spektor have played support to the likes of Attica Rage and Texas Flood and on this showing I can see them overtaking these bands soon.
Five tracks of Sabbath/Hendrix/QOTSA like rock are on offer here. My favourite track is ‘Transcending’, very psychedelic and trancelike. Final track,’ Earth Mother’, makes me think of Black Spiders, another excellent band, hypnotic vocals provided by John Scane.
On the whole this is well worth a listen, especially for fans of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and the like. ****

EP Review: MASAMUNE – Tension and Resolution
Self release (Release Date 25.05.2015)
Tension and Resolution is the debut release from Sunderland band Masamune. The band play Alt-rock and five tracks are showcased here.
Track one is slow paced, a decent rock intro let down by lacklustre vocals and melody. Track two, ‘Silhouettes’, is more of the same however ‘Run and Hide’ begins very slowly but has a catchy chorus.
Track five, ‘House of Mirrors’, is the best song on the EP. A bit more rocking, a little faster and with some good melodies and a moody minor key.
Billed as appealing to fans of Muse and Red Hot Chilli Peppers, otherwise you should probably give it a miss. **1/2
