Album review: ROOM EXPERIENCE – Room Experience

ROOM EXPERIENCE – Room Experience

MelodicRock Records [Release date 22.05.15]

First thing’s first…Room Experience…what an absolutely awful name for a band!!! Let’s hope the music improves things…

Who are Room Experience then?…well it’s the name for Italian keyboard player Gianluca Firmo’s solo project which features various names from the Italian melodic rock scene plus a big name vocalist…namely Pink Cream 69’s David Readman.

What we basically have here is a set of 10 AOR by numbers…it’s all very well produced and generally David Readman’s vocals cannot be faulted (the high notes do sound distorted at times though). The songs all have the expected keyboard flourishes and crisp guitar solos.

Best of the bunch is opener Shock Me whose keyboards are very early Marillion at times. Not Time Yet For A Lullaby sounds like a lost Cars track and is the best of the rest.

The blandness then takes over – Tomorrow Came is an unmemorable ballad featuring an urgh…saxophone solo. Rainbow In The Rain is a poor man’s tribute to the Survivor classic Ever Since The World Began. Run to You starts with a wishy-washy intro and doesn’t really improve from there.

The quality of the song writing lets this release down…there just isn’t anything that makes me go “wow”…it all just blends into the background…David Readman just cannot save this from the bargain bins.

All very safe and predictable…and has been done better many times before…  **
