Cherry Red [Release date 25.09.15]
I enjoyed TalkSport’s (he also subs in at Planet Rock and is the drummer in Kiss tribute band Dressed To Kill) Ian Danter’s debut album ‘Prove You Wrong’, released in 2013 and here is the next instalment. Like the last album he handles all the instruments and vocals too this time around – last time he used Lee Small (Shy/Lifeline etc.) on vocals.
There are lots of musical gems on here, like the melodic rock opener ‘If My Truth Is A Lie’ featuring a great play on words with ‘I’m glad it gives you succor, But I know that doesn’t make me a sucker.’
‘Mr. Poison’ sounds like Kiss and in the sleeve notes he does admit to rearranging the riff on the Kiss song ‘Watchin’ You’. Not surprising given he is the drummer in Kiss tribute band Dressed To Kill.
Plenty of power pop on here with ‘Love Fatigue’ and ‘Chinese Whispers’, then for a quieter moment ‘Second Time Around’ hits the spot (shades of ELO on the chorus). ‘I Love You More’ is another lighters/mobile phones aloft song.
The rock quota is set to max on ‘It All Comes Back To Rock’, the only co-write on the album with Greg Hart (Cats In Space). If Cats In Space celebrate all the good things in (softer) rock from the 1970′s, Ian Danter does the same for the 1980′s and the hair metal/hard rock bands.
Check out ‘Simple As That’, could be any number of 80′s hard rockers from over the pond. ‘Better Off Out Of It (Than Worse Off Dead)’ sounds like Motley Crue, although the weakest song for me, possibly as I am not a fan of Motley Crue.
This album is not out to push musical boundaries, instead it is meant to be played loud and enjoyed. Highly recommended and better than his debut, this boy’s got talent and hopefully more people will get to realise this and enjoy the music on here. ****
