Album review: IRON SAVIOR – Titancraft

IRON SAVIOR – Titancraft

AFM Records [Release date 20.05.16]

Iron Savior’s ninth studio release “Titancraft” features more of the same from the German power metal band…namely science fiction inspired Teutonic metal a la Primal Fear/Helloween.

Main-man Piet Sielck (vocals, guitar) is back again and is joined by the same colleagues as previous album “Rise of the Hero” from 2014. So on guitars there is Joachim Küstner, on bass Jan-Sören Eckert together with drummer Thomas Nack.

“Titancraft” follows the same trajectory as “Rise of the Hero” starting with Under Siege, a short instrumental piece that serves little purpose apart from setting the science fiction tone for what is to follow.

As with Iron Savior’s other releases “Titancraft” is well played heavy metal with powerful vocals and more riffs than you can shake a stick at! My main problem is that everything is just so predictable and lacking in variation…and the songs are just not catchy enough…

Everything passes by in a haze from title track Titancraft, through single Way of the Blade, Strike Down the Tyranny and all the way to closer Rebellious.

The high point comes in penultimate track I Surrender which slows things down and exhibits a degree of passion and even the odd bit of orchestration.

Unfortunately repeated plays have not really improved the enjoyment of “Titancraft”. Disappointing follow up to the impressive “Rise of the Hero” that sees the band just treading water…  **½
