MIG Music [Release date – 24.02.17]
This album package is one of a number of releases from MIG Records (Made In Germany in case you were wondering!) which feature old recordings from Rockpalast. They have recorded many gigs across Germany over the last 40 odd years so there is a deep well of live recordings to be tapped across many genres. Along with the CD there is also a DVD of the original performance, so all in all it is a great value for money package.
This performance captures a young Pat Travers in full flow. The trio completed by Peter Cowling on bass and a young drummer by the name of Nicko McBrain (wonder whatever happened to him?) were a blues powerhouse and the sights and sounds are equally enthralling.
Pat’s guitar work is stunning throughout, he wrings out the rocking blues for all he is worth. The rest of the band are no slouches either and overall the package is well presented. The set on the night was a mix of originals and a few covers with the highlights being ‘Boom Boom’ and ‘Rock n Roll Susie’. ‘Melody 1&2’ showcases the playing prowess of all on stage, again Pat’s fret work is jaw dropping and you can see why Nicko McBrain went on to bigger things, his drumming throughout shows the depth of talent he had even in his tender years.
All in all, this is a great release which is a must for any discerning blues fan but one which will also appeal to a wider rock audience. It will also be a good curio for the Iron Maiden collectors out there.
