Album review: LYNYRD SKYNYRD – Live In Atlantic City

LYNYRD SKYNYRD - Live In Atlantic City

earMUSIC [Release date 21.09.18]

Lynyrd Skynyrd, undoubtedly the world’s favourite Southern rock band, is touring for the final time. With this news you can expect a flurry of live releases, greatest hits albums and people selling their stories, and not all of these releases will be high quality, with the blessing of the band or even worthy of the postage price. I’m pleased to say that this is not the case with ‘Live In Atlantic City, which is being released in multiple formats including CD, Bluray, DVD, vinyl and digital.

The 70 minute show is a run through the band’s best loved songs plus some special guest appearances.  All the favourites are there: ‘Gimme Back My Bullets’, ‘Red, White and Blue’, ‘That Smell’, ‘Call Me The Breeze’ and, of course, ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ and ‘Freebird’.

The band sound great and it is one hell of a set, but it also includes Hank Williams Jr performing ‘Down South Jukin” and a raucous ‘Born To Boogie’, singer songwriter Bo Bice playing his ‘The Real Thing’ and 3 Doors Down bringing us hit single ‘Kryptonite’ and ‘Saturday Night Special’, the best bit of this is Skynyrd play with them on their song then they return the favour.

Lynyrd Skynyrd’s current incarnation have made some great music of their own since getting together in 1987, they have also done a stellar job of bringing the original band’s music to life and keeping millions of fans entertained over 30 years.

It is releases like ‘Live In Atlantic City’ that are going to have to do that job moving forward, and this one really can.  ****
