Kieran Conaway is a singer/songwriter from Delaware, USA. Kieran began his musical studies as a classical pianist and cellist, later receiving instruction in orchestral arranging and composition. Kieran developed his acoustic guitar, piano and vocal styles while performing in folk ensembles in Manhattan and Prague, and later solo in venues across Ireland. Inspired by the troubadour spirit of artists like The Tallest Man On Earth, Bob Dylan, Glen Hansard, Kieran set about recording ‘Your Ghosts’.
Kieran has a soothing vocal that sits well on top of the music, which is never overbearing. He uses his skills learnt in orchestral arranging to good use, making the most of each instrument but never overegging the sound. It works best on the folk of ‘Get Well Soon’, full of fiddle and gentle acoustic guitar, and ‘Norway’, an accomplished piece of acoustic driven pop.
Pretty short album at just under forty minutes across the eight songs, but at least there are no songs just there to make up the numbers.
One of those albums to keep coming back to and finding more to discover on each visit. ***1/2
