Frontiers [Release date 09.07.21]
Album number seven from melodic hard rockers Hardline who still feature sole remaining original member vocalist Johnny Gioeli. The rest of Hardline is guitarist Mario Percudani, bassist Anna Portalupi, drummer Marco Di Salvia and on keyboards, backing vocals and production duties Alessandro Del Vecchio. The album also marks the first time the same line-up has recorded a second album together.
The album opens with a strong trio of melodic hard rockers, namely ‘Fuel To The Fire’, ‘Surrender’ and ‘If I Could I Would’. The latter is one of those blast out loud anthems. A great, uplifting tune and features one of the guitar solos of the album.
Johnny Gioeli is in fine voice as the ballad ‘Heavenly’ proves. Just the right amount of grit and melody in his vocal, a good combination. In fact there is little room on this album for the quieter moments as they keep their focus on the rock side of their sound.
‘80’s Moment’ is as the title suggests a bit of an 80’s hard rock wig out and great fun! Sort of song you could imagine Night Ranger having fun with.
‘We Belong’ rounds off the album and just listen to the way Johnny Gioeli holds the final note of the song – bit of a wow moment.
Hardline have released another enjoyable album chock full of melodic hard rock goodness. ***1/2
