EP review: LORDS OF RUIN – Ruin Within

LORDS OF RUIN - Ruin Within

Website [Release 24.01.22; streaming services from 14.02.22]

Metal band, Lords of Ruin have released their long-awaited debut EP, following the inevitable Covid delays to production and release, which have affected so many up-and-coming bands. It literally stalled them in their tracks (excuse the pun) just as they were gaining momentum.

So, what does this ‘Ruin Within’ EP deliver? It has 6 tracks including the 2 previously released Lords of Ruins singles “What’s Left?” and “In From The Cold”, demonstrating their versality and potential (and what potential), with poignant lyrics, tight musicianship, blissful heavy melodies, they rightly claim their place in the Metal genre.

Showcasing their diversity is the almost ballad like ‘Walk the Line’, Dox vocal range is vast, and nothing demonstrates it better than this track, which is a personal favourite. ‘The Man I Am’ starts gently with poignancy and then delivers an absolute blast of hard rock, sublime guitar riffage right there.

I’ve recently had the privilege of seeing Lords of Ruin live at Hard Rock Hell XIV, ‘What’s Left’ was the set opener at Hard Rock Hell XIV and the arena filled up while they were playing it, you’ll soon see why! They exceeded my expectations live and this EP delivers you a taste of what these Metal Lords are capable of, covering songs from their inception to where they are today, ready to launch an offensive on the metal world. ****
