Tricia Duffy, aka Little Lore, release the second part of her album in two parts/EPs. This version collates all seven songs together and is also available on CD, as well as download and streaming.
Producer and multi-instrumentalist Oli Deakin is again involve, of which three are unique to the second EP and on the album which collates both EPs. Confused? Just buy the CD that features all seven songs – simple!
First of the three new songs is ‘The Jackal’. As Little Lore explains, “I originally wrote this for a TV Americana Crime brief, but I liked it so much I decided to release it myself. There are lots of myths surrounding the Jackal, which are known in some communities as ‘death dogs’ or as tricksters.” You could easily imagine this as part of a soundtrack to a TV crime series. Listen carefully to the percussion and strings/keys arrangements, marvellous.
Next we have ‘Little Pieces’ which she “wrote this in response to a brief which was simply to write a song that was titled “little pieces” with a I IV V chord structure. I started mind mapping the words little pieces and somehow landed on the idea of food. I took inspiration and confidence from the likes of Nick Cave and Tom Waits and decided to just go for it – with a lot of support from Oli who always believed.” The guitar solo on this one is a thing of beauty and the chorus makes this very radio friendly.
‘It Would be Easier to Miss You if You’d Died’ is co-write with fellow songwriter, Thiago Trosso. Based on the rise and rise of ghosting in the social media world, it provides a strong finale to the album.
As mentioned on my review of Little Lore’s part one of the ‘Seven Stories’ EP, it marls a big step up from her 2021 EP, both musically and lyrically. ‘Seven Stories’ is perfect for those after a top quality mix of Americana and folk with a strong sense of pop in the melodies. ****
