AFM Records [Release date 19.01.24]
Is this 15 track, high concept sci-fi metal album meant to be fun?
Because it most certainly is. Not funny, but fun.
It’s high energy, as well as high concept. It’s got a slick, sophisticated, symphonic power metal foundation, full of huge choruses and 3D arrangements. And yet it’s managed to blur that elusive dividing line between pop and metal. You can imagine a clubby/ dancefloor mix of the title track rattling up the charts at warp speed.
We’ll get to the concept in a moment.
Tracks like ‘CtrlAltDel’, ‘Cyberdome’ and ‘Disciples Of The Stars’ get to the point fast, make it, then get out again, equally fast. Guitarist/ Producer Edwin Premberg’s complex arrangements seem simple in Metalite’s hands. Huge choruses abound, breathtaking melodies are surrounded by popping keys/synths, hi-speed axework, all wrapped up in singer Erica Ohlssen’s classy mezzo soprano.
The concept: Earth is f**ked; so, we’re making for the stars. Its eclectic vision of future shock never gets weighed down by self-seriousness, and that’s the key. It’s the end of the world as we know it and they feel fine.
Only metal bands explore this concept and put it to music.
Six “teaser tracks” have already been released up until now. So you can get a pretty good appreciation of the album by getting online. ‘Aurora’, ‘Hurricane’ and ‘Take My Hand’ are worth looking out for. Like them and you’ll love the album. ****
