Album review: FATAL VISION – Three Times Lucky

FATAL VISION - Three Times Lucky

Art of Melody  [Release date 22.11.24]

Fatal Vision originated in Ottawa, Canada during the late 1980s, carving out a niche in the Melodic Rock scene with influences from iconic bands like Asia, Bad English, Journey, Survivor, and Van Halen. After a 30-year hiatus, the band made a triumphant return in 2021, bringing their classic sound to a new generation of fans. Their recent albums, ”Once” and ”Twice,” have garnered critical acclaim and charted internationally, solidifying Fatal Vision as a powerful force in modern rock.

1: “Time of Our Lives” was immediately upbeat. The intro reminded me actually slightly of a classic Springsteen track. Felt very uplifting and anthemic already. A very solid start to the album. Reflecting back on the good times and although they may be gone. Memories never fade.

The layering of vocal harmonies on this was spectacular. Really showed the vocal range and capabilities from the band. Also loved the synth and Piano accompaniment which added dynamic. The guitar work was so so slick.

2: “Dangerous” gave a classic 80s feel. Love how the sound is similar to the first track. It shows me the band has consistency and have well and truly found their unique sound which I have to say I haven’t heard from many bands.

The drumming and bass work was very impressive.

3: “Once in a Lifetime” I felt more 80s influence in this track. And the guitar solo was electric! (No pun intended)

4: “In Another Life” this was just gorgeous. A romantic rock ballad at its absolute finest. The harmonies were stunning and the vocals so strong. This made me tear up at how Incredible this was. Lyrically, musically just everything was so raw and heartfelt. This is a hidden gem that I’m so lucky to have gotten the opportunity to hear.

The build up musically created a truly atmospheric experience that unless you also expedite it I honestly can’t put it into any more words. While I usually go for the rockier tracks I can really groove to. I’m an absolute sucker for a romantic ballad. This ticked every single box for me.

5:  “Three Times Lucky” the drumming work was the star of the show in this track. It was fast paced. It gave country rock in abundance and I loved it. The pace got amped up to 1000! It was gutsy, rocky and incredibly catchy. Loved the ragtime ending to the track as well.

6: “Goodbye” pace slowed again slightly with this track in comparison to the previous, but it love the ebbs and flows as it keeps the album fresh and interesting. “Moments frozen in time, even when the picture fades” again heartfelt and truly poetical lyrically.

7: “It’s Not Over Till It’s Over” this track made me want to dance my socks off! I can see this being a firm fan favourite. Could really hear the Van Halen  influence here.

8: “All Roads Lead to London” is packed with haunting lyrics combined with musical and vocal theatrics creating a truly immersive experience for the listener.

9: “Girl In My Dreams” another stunning guitar solo and a true 80s rock ballad in sound.

10: “I Won’t Hold You Back” another fantastic and heartfelt ballad. I can feel that although the pace is now slowing. It’s possibly paving the way for something truly special to end the album. The vocals once again absolutely stunning.

11: “One Wild Night” upping the pace and upping the ante with a truly 80s hair metal track. Musically and vocally  encapsulating the theme of a rocker in the 80s. Brilliant. The guitar solos are again face melting.

12: “Sting of the Rain” another beautiful ballad. I am loving the diversity here. Just when you think things are speeding up. “Fatal vision” expertly slow it down again. The sound of the rain used at the end of the track was genius.

13: “Thank You Very Much Goodnight” what a penultimate track! A truly mood lifting track speaking of what it is like to perform in front of a crowd.

Vocally phenomenal! It’s like the greatest showman turns rock with the layering of harmonies and just how strong the vocals are.

14:  “Endless Emotions” talking of your hearts turmoil. Something most can relate to. An Extremely raw and heartfelt ending. I also feel this album was just that. A wave of endless emotions, one moment I want to cry, the next I want to dance. Magic was created and I loved every single second. I was truly immersed from start to finish.

15: “Time of Our Lives (duet) “ was the digital bonus track from the album. Adding on to the thoughts on this from a non duet standpoint. I feel this added even more depth to the track and making it a duet truly tells the story and makes it so much more emotional.

Wow! Just wow!! Straight off the bat I was incredibly impressed with the outstanding range of vocals as well as the musical dynamics.

Every single element was on point and blended together perfectly. The album felt like I was transported into rock theatre. It was absolutely amazing! True storytelling with this album. I would love to experience this live, it was just stunning. I never know what is coming with bands I haven’t had the pleasure of listening to before, and this was literally beautiful music to my ears.

I genuinely absolutely adored the vocals and how everything was just beautifully blended. I’m a child of the late 80s but love the 80s sound. So having that influence in the album with the piano/synth work I thought was just brilliant. I still can’t get over the ballad of this album either.

This is some serious talent. So clean, and full of unique flair. How these guys aren’t selling out large stadiums already I don’t know! I truly believe this album needs to be heard by many. I think it will also appeal to many as it’s not too heavy but still packs enough punch for the harder rock audience. “A powerful force in modern rock” I wholeheartedly agree! I am now itching to see these guys live after listening to this.

Absolute top marks for me no question.

“Three times lucky” what an album. *****
