Sky Arts from 06/11/20
Think of all the iconic music images you have enjoyed, think of those which are both timeless and yet capture a moment in time and this new six-part Sky series ICON – Music Through the Lens will undoubtably contain a number of these photographs.
Featuring over 3000 stills, 128 interviews and music from the likes of Springsteen, Hendrix, the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and more, this promises to be a great insight into photographs that have literally documented the history of popular music through the decades.
Amongst the interviews contained here are those with over fifty of the world’s best-known music photographers, often proving that they were as rock n roll as the subjects they were working with. The series promises to be captivating and should draw you in with tales from the road, the evolution of album cover art and the acceptance of music photography as art itself. However, it could be said that the art in question is actually music for the eyes.
Two of my favourite photographers are the late Terry O’Neill and Gered Makowitz, both of whom came to my attention through their images of the Rolling Stones, and are interviewed here, with the latter also being a series producer and director on “ICON- Music Through the Lens”.
This series will appeal to music fans and art lovers alike and comes highly recommended.
