GWYN ASHTON – Radiogram

Fab Tone Records (Released 22nd October)

Gwyn Ashton has been steadily building a reputation for himself as part of the upsurge of interest in blues rock and his last album ‘Two-Man Blues Army’ received a five star review on GRTR! He has some impressive guests including Don Airey, Magnum’s Mark Stanway and Robbie Blunt (Robert Plant).

This album is a joyous blues rock celebration from opener ‘Little Girl’ (tasty slide – one for Georgia Satellites fans with a cheeky Stones riff thrown in) through to the closing instrumental ‘Bluz For Roy’. The latter really allows Gwyn Ashton to show off his soloing and he has a lovely, big fat guitar sound. The cover of Willie Dixon’s ‘I Just Wanna Make Love To You’ is sublime, again you can only marvel at Ashton’s fluid soloing. It’s the blues rock stompers that really see this album come alive like ‘Comin’ Home’ and ‘Dog Eat Dog’.

In Gwyn Ashton’s case do believe the hype – move over Joe Bonamassa Mr Ashton is in town. This should see him finally get the sales and success he deserves.
