FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY – Echogenetic
Dependent (released 19th August)
Front Line Assembly are a Canadian electro-industrial band who have been going for over 25 years now. This new album had the band stating they would return to their more electronic roots, as their last album 2010’s ‘Improvised Electronic Device’ was a much more industrial sounding album.
There is plenty going on here, with a mix of instrumentals and vocal songs, although the vocals are often heavily synthesised/ct added effects. The synths weave some interesting sonic soundscapes and the band are not all retro, as they use dubstep and modern beats. Interesting to that the band use old faithful like various Moog keyboards and blend in the latest cutting edge electronic based products.
An interesting listen as they appeal to the club/dance crowd with their more rhythmic and repetitive beats, whilst the synths and electronic will draw in another audience.

THE CUSTODIAN – Necessary Wasted Time
Debut album by a new progressive rock band and one that is very accomplished. They certainly know how to pen a melodic tune and the vocals of Richard Thompson remind the listener a lot of Saga, no bad thing in my book.
Songs like ‘The Man Out Of Time’ and ‘Other People’s Lives’ are instant hits on the listener’s ears, featuring lots of keys and acoustic guitar, which they use to good use throughout the album.
Check this band out as they look set to have a good future ahead of them.

HEAVENS FIRE – Judgement Day
Heavens Fire have had more than their fair share of personal tragedies, and are now releasing this album which was recorded a couple of years ago. They had their debut album released back in 2000 on the now defunct Now & Then label. They are recording a new album due for release in October and until then we have this album to keep us busy.
For this album the band recruited a new vocalist, Darren Smith of Harem Scarem fame and what a great choice he has proved to be. With Smith’s vocals Dave Lee Roth and Van Halen spring to mind, that and classic 80′s hard rockers like Dokken. ‘Screamin’ sets the band’s stall out nicely – tasty guitar riffs, catchy chorus and a crowd pleasing vocal from Darren Smith.
For an enjoyable melodic hard rock album this hits the spot and fans of Harem Scarem and Van Halen will enjoy this even more!
