The Night Flight Orchestra return with their new album following hot on the heels of last year’s AOR-tastic ’Amber Galactic’. Any doubts that they maybe running low on catchy songs is soon dispelled by the immense opener ‘This Time’. With a chorus bigger than a blue whale the Night Flight Orchestra know how to create songs that hark back to the classic 80′s AOR/melodic rock sound. The piano and guitar solos on this one are gloriously OTT.

Another big hitter is ‘Lovers In The Rain’, featuring a memorable chorus and plenty of keys guided along by a steady rhythm. Perfect for blasting out on a hot summer’s day.

Ballads? Yep the Night Flight Orchestra can do these with ease. ‘Moments Of Thunder’ is in the Survivor mould with a stirring chorus, building nicely from a gentle start to an uplifting chorus.

The song called ‘Speedwagon’ gives a big hint to one of the band’s musical inspirations, whiulst vocalist Bjorn Speed Strid wearing a beret similar to Survivor’s vocalist Dave Bickler back in the day, gives another hint.

The band added backing vocalists Anna-Mia Bonde and Anna Brygård to their line-up last year and they add greatly to the band’s forays into the more disco/ABBA sound of ‘Pretty Thing Closing In’. This may alarm some fans of the band, but this musical diversion works well. However, the album does dip towards the end with ‘Winged And Serpentine’ and ‘The Last Of The Independent Romantics’ fairly middling compared to the band’s usual high standards.

Another addictive slab of 80′s styled AOR meets melodic rock with a hint of disco from the Night Flight Orchestra. With an autumn tour lined-up they look set to see their musical star rise higher and higher. ****
