Organ Fairchild Records [Release date 15.09.21]
Here at GRTR! Towers we are privileged to receive any number of albums from aspiring or jobbing musicians, some obviously hitting the mark more than others. Occasionally a real gem emerges and in Organ Fairchild we have a throwback to the gritty soul jazz infused combos of the sixties. Think prime time Jack McDuff (whose band included a young George Benson), Jimmy McGriff, Booker T and even Grant Green.
The band have topped the 2021 March Madness competition in their native New York and carved out a well-earned local reputation for their jam-based grooves.
Guitarist Dave Ruch infuses a degree of jazz/rock into the proceedings but it perfectly complements Joe Bellanti’s keyboards and Corey Kertzie’s drums. Well evidenced on tracks like opener ‘Amateur Night At The Apollo’, ‘Huh’ and ‘Get The Scotch Out’.
This is the sort of stuff that would go down well in a low ceiling emporia whilst supping craft beer into the early hours (maybe the Low Bridge Ale donated for the album cover). Tasty. ****
