News: Albums of the Month (July 2022 – September 2022)

CATS IN SPACE - Kickstart The Sun

CATS IN SPACE Kickstart The Sun (Harmony Factory)

The ambitious production of chief songwriter Greg Hart and Ian Caple does justice to the songs and the overall impression is that the sound is noticeably tougher than previous releases with a greater nod towards the original pomp rock and AOR behemoths from either side of the Atlantic…

For me this is not only their finest work to date but is nothing less than a masterpiece. *****

Snowy White - Driving On The 44

SNOWY WHITE Driving On The 44 (Soulfood)

‘Driving On The 44’ is an album made with love, care and attention. It feels like meeting an old friend who is still pursuing the same passion all these years later. In doing so Snowy White restates his case as one of the most underrated blues guitarist of our era. ****

H.E.A.T- Force Majeure

H.E.A.T. Force Majeure (earMUSIC)

The production is razor sharp, bringing out the sheer hugeness of the sound, while after his time away Kenny Leckremo seems a new person: his voice has greater depth and range than his predecessor, allowing the band to take the sound in different directions…

While personally I miss the old melodic and lighter H.E.A.T sound, this is a mighty impressive statement that will broaden their appeal to heavier markets.  **** 1/4

Dim Gray - Firmament

DIM GRAY Firmament (English Electric Recordings )

A beautiful album, beautifully played and if the world really is getting you down, ditch the shrink and buy this – it’ll get you through.

Exceptional.  *****

White Spirit - Right Or Wrong

WHITE SPIRIT Ready Or Not (Conquest Music)

40 years on from their promising debut album, White Spirit are back with a new line-up that captures the spirit (pun intended) of the original band, but also suggests that given a handful of decent new songs could usher in a meaningful coda to their career.

A hugely impressive effort. ****

THE DEAD DAISIES - Radiance

THE DEAD DAISIES Radiance (The Dead Daisies)

‘Radiance’ … references several decades of heavy rock and serves it up in a dramatic, contemporary fashion and always with Hughes’ midas touch.  ‘Radiance’ is quite simply heavy rock heaven and certainly one of the best in class this year. *****
