earMUSIC [Release date 27th March 2026]
Myrath have been on my musical radar for a few years now since I reviewed their ‘Live In Carthage’ album back in 2019 and was blown away with their melodic metal full of eastern promise. Hailing from Tunisia, but now based in France, Myrath have built up a large following across Europe and beyond, due in no small part to their impressive live shows.
‘Wilderness Of Mirrors’ is the band’s seventh studio album and carries on the with the same blend of metal, melody and North African influenced songs. Opener ‘The Funeral’ sounds like the prelude to a Disney film at the beginning, however the song soon develops into a monster of a track! Built on a frantic guitar riff, the song is a sonic masterpiece with a soaring chorus and great vocals from Zahar Zogati. A good start!
The band then team up with Amaranthe vocalist Elize Ryd for ‘Until The End’. She shares vocal duties with Zahar to great effect, and it is easy to see why this song was chosen as one of the pre album release singles. ‘Breathing Near The Roar’ was another song selected as a pre-release. This is a slower paced number with a great harmonies and another killer chorus.
‘Les Enfants Du Soleil’ ups the pace once more and the band throw everything into the track. The guitar work of Malek Ben Ariba really shines through on this one and his playing across the album is top notch. His fret skills are again showcased on ‘Still The Dawn Will Come’ where he moves from acoustic passages to full on prog metal riffage with ease.
‘The Clown’ is a straightforward rocker with a mystical vocal in the mid-section which leads into a rocking climax. If you like your rock ballads to be big and sonorous then ‘Soul Of My Soul’ will be right up your street. A gentle piano line from Kevin Codfert leads this, but it is the big ‘lighter in the air’ chorus that really brings this one to life. Epic would be an apt description.
‘Edge Of The night’ moves things back into gear with a great riff shot through with those middle eastern melodies once again. The eastern influence then continues into ‘Echoes Of The Fallen’ which is a track with a finely balanced blend between great harmonies and heavy riffs.
The album ends on another epic note with ‘Through The Seasons’ which is another big production number. The guys give their all on this one and it rounds off the album in fine fashion.
If you have yet to discover the music of Myrath I urge you to give this album a listen. The band have talent in spades and know how to write a cracking song. I have yet to catch the band in a live setting, but hope to do that later this year. With a soundtrack like this it should be one hell of a show!
