Album review : ELECTRIC MOB – 2 Make U Cry And Dance (Digital Deluxe Edition)

Frontiers Music [Release date :10.07.26]

Having tasted Electric Mob’s 2 Make U Cry And Dance, originally released in January 2023, the self employed music media’s effusive praise led to this:-

A digital reissue with an additional six (live) tracks from the band’s hugely successful performance at Capital Moto Week (the largest motorcycle and rock festival in Latin America) in 2024.

Praise has been plentiful of the band’s blues influenced hard rock studio album, comparing the band’s sound to Aerosmith, G’N’R and Audioslave.

This expanded reissue adds emphasis to those claims.

The band, Renan Zonta (Vocals), Ben Hur Auwarter (Guitar) and Mateus Cestaro (Drums) succeed in making the clamour and clang of live performance merge past with present. This is music that is deliberately imbued with bygone vibes, and has the feel of a battle hardened band fighting for its future.

And so, the live stuff : the album’s two big-hitters, ‘By The Name, NaNaNa’ and ‘It’s Gonna Hurt’ are stomping stadium-fillers.

‘Saddest Funk Ever’ has a dark, derivative swagger. It’s a delight, and live it really sounds alive.

There is a meticulousness to EM’s roughed up hard rock done live, and at the core of each song there is a melody just busting to get out.

‘Love Cage’s elemental hard rock, howling at the moon, shows that best,
while ‘The Sun Is Falling’ aims for a Jimmy Page power slide and gets there.

Live, ‘Will Shine’s raunchy, rootsy riff’s been fattened up and sanded down for the stage and just about edges out ‘By The Name’ as the standout track.

Powerful stuff. ****
