The Treatment have been around since 2008 and this is album number three from them. They have supported many big names in the rock world including Kiss, Motley Crue and Status Quo plus they have played at Download.
Despite all the exposure they have never quite made the next step up the ladder in terms of recognition and sales. That will change I am sure with this album, as they have a new vocalist Michael Emms and he fits the band’s AC/DC and Airbourne like groove perfectly. They also have a new guitarist Tao Grey, joining original guitarist Tagore Grey.
‘Let It Begin’ and ‘Cry Tough’, are proper fists-in-the-air rock anthems, both driven along by dirty blues rock riffs. But they can switch to a more melodic style on ‘Backseat Heartbeat’, that recalls Europe and Thin Lizzy on the guitar solos.
Loving the drums and guitar trade offs on ‘Better Think Again’, Michael Emms shines on this, as he does throughout the album. Album closer ‘Light The Sun’ sees the band back into more melodic rock territory. Reminded me a little of Ash.
They would go down a treat on a joint headliner tour with say H.E.A.T. as both band’s pay homage to the hard rock giants, yet add their own style and have bags of youthful energy that not only pleases the older rock fans, but brings in a whole new generation of younger fans who take a band like the Treatment as their gateway into discovering the classic bands.
I was not overly impressed by their first two albums, however with a new vocalist coupled with a set of catchy hard rock tunes, this is their best album to date and one with plenty to entertain rock fans of all ages. ****
