Book review: On track…Marc Bolan, Tyrannosaurus Rex and T.Rex (Every album, every song) by Peter Gallagher

On track...Marc Bolan, Tyrannosaurus Rex and T.Rex (Every album, every song) by Peter Gallagher

Sonicbond Publishing [Publication date 11.06.21]

By the time of his untimely death in 1977 Marc Bolan was still releasing singles, although the big hits of earlier this decade were behind him, he had his own successful TV show and more then that he had become an influence on at least the next two decades of British popular music.

In “Marc Bolan, Tyrannosaurus Rex and T.Rex- every album, every song” we get to look at the official releases in Bolan’s lifetime, from the early solo singles, the Tyrannosaurus Rex years and the hugely popular T.Rex era. Peter Gallagher has done a great job here of guiding us through the recording career of this extraordinary musical legend, one that is clearly close to his heart.

The in-depth examination of the songs is one that fans will love, and one that may cause the reader to challenge their own interpretations of these songs. The casual reader may, like myself, now suddenly find that they have a new Bolan playlist that varies from the previously released hits compilations.

Books like “Marc Bolan, Tyrannosaurus Rex and T.Rex- every album, every song” are a way to revisit the music of the subject, or can serve as a pointer to new fans, or can simply be a nostalgic run through a band that you love, and this book ably covers all three.  ***
