The Smoking Pistols are a four piece garage punk meets rock ‘n roll band hailing from France, consisting of El Tat (guitar & vocals), Zack (guitars), Call (bass) and Bone (drums). El Tat and Zack share songwriting duties between themselves.
This five song EP has some good raw edged tunes like ‘Cut Some Slack’, which recalls early 80s punk acts, whilst ‘Glass of Patience’ has a hint of the Pixies about it. ‘Sip It For Free’ is the most instant on the ears with this one recalling the 80s output of the Stranglers. The six minutes plus of ‘Isolation’ is perhaps a bit too long for the garage punk vibe the band produce elsewhere on ther EP.
By no means essential, the Smoking Pistols do have something about them and certainly worth a listen if you’ve a penchant for garage punk/rock ‘n’ roll. ***
