Album review: BURNING POINT – Burning Point

BURNING POINT – Burning Point

AFM Records [Release date 12.06.15]

Burning Point are yet another of AFM’s roster that I have never heard of! Burning Point are a metal band from Finland and this self-titled album is actually their sixth studio release but their first with former Battle Beast vocalist Nitte Valo.

Previously main-man Pete Ahonen provided the vocals but now Miss Valo has given the band a totally different feel, in what is a male dominated industry, with her powerful voice.

“Burning Point” consists of six re-recorded “classics” together with five new tracks…obviously now that they have a female vocalist, I’m sure the re-recorded numbers actually sound like new tracks anyway…

As expected the Burning Point sound is somewhere between that of Battle Beast, Primal Fear and Judas Priest…and that can’t be bad can it?

All of the songs are of a consistently high standard and improve with each play. You have the slower epic numbers like All The Madness and My Darkest Times mixed in with the pedal to the metal ones such as Signs Of Danger and Into The Fire.

The re-recorded tracks blend perfectly with the new ones and a cover of Kiss’s I’ve Had Enough (Into The Fire) brings things to a satisfying conclusion.

The production is clear but the vocals do seem to be a little low in the mix at times.

Nothing overly spectacular but definitely enjoyable. One to play loud!  ***½
